The little harbour has a sea-wall 330 metres long which shelters the port from high winds. Little fishing boats use it and then in the summer months it is filled with hundreds of yachts which find a safe haven in pretty surroundings.
Marciana Marina is an interesting departure point for the nearby island of Capraia (22 miles away) and for the coast of Capo Corso in Corsica ( 30 miles away).
Boat Places:
There are 180 places for boats on the piers and 150 of those are reserved by the Sailing Club on the floating pier, available for visitors on payment.
Approach and Mooring:
The approach presents no particular difficulty. You recognize Marciana Marina from its long sea-wall with the round shaped yellow-ocre coloured Medicean tower dating from the 16th Century easily visible. The clear-coloured houses of the village with their red-tiled roofs follow along the whole of the southern water-front of the port.
Part of the harbour wall is used for moorings for the fishing boats. If you should moor alongside the harbour wall near the tower, you must manoevre with care because the depth is limited ( particular care of the rudder which could hit the bottom ).
The sea bed inside the harbour is made up of sand and stones.
If the harbour should be too full, you can always put your anchor down in good weather, in front of the old town, near a 90 metres-long pier which sits at right angles to the coast.
The local Maritime Office is on the quay near the tower.
Resources:
Water - there is only one spot near the tower where there is someone authorised to distribute water.
The floating pier belonging to the Sailing Club has water and electricity.
Fuel - in the west corner of the harbour, there is a pump with petrol and deisel; however, the pier there is only accessible to small boats.
Showers and toilets - close to the harbour wall in the vicinity of the tower and also in the Church square in the village itself.
Haulage: there is a crane and haulage equipment (on payment) for getting your boat (up to 15 tons) into the water.
Supplies: there are shops in the village for your food supplies. There is also a shipchandler on the sea front. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in the village which is particularly pleasant in the evenings.
